Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
No not really. I've already said he is a good fit for us and he's had a load of injuries..my point is at this stage we could stall or go further South, it's hard to say right now.

Let's not start feeling too sorry for the manager though, he's got selection and tactics wrong in a few games recently and I don't see why he should get a free pass, previous managers didn't.

Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
same shit...diferent day

I think he has done alright considering...he's had shit luck with the quality he has had out injured.
.all top players for us... started with Lanzini in the summer..and gone south steadily since...

likes of us can't afford to lose players like Lanzini.Yarmolenko..Wilshere...Balbuena....even Reid..and not suffer badly.

if he had a fully fit squad and they turned in performances like the last three..then yes he deserves full barrels.

we had all this after the first four games..he doesn't have a scooby.. the offside trap ain't working..blah..blah.

the TEETH and Guardiola struggled the first season...and they had far superior at there disposal..

know what I mean

A 'work in progress' is just a cliched term sometimes used in football these days with no real substance or foundation.Look at the top 6 clubs, it's always the same Apart from maybe Leicester what other clubs in recent history and actually 'progressed' sufficiently to challenge them?

If injuries persist and our poor form persists we may find that the lofty place of 8th in late December may be our highest placing for sometime. This could also easily go tits up at this point.

It's a work in progress mate.

That reads like a post based on emotion and hope rather than any real substance. He has a long way to go to get us anywhere meaningful, and has to tolerate the owners and a never ending injury list. He's wealthy and fairly old, so not sure he can see it through, but let's hope he does as he's a good fit for us.

good post mate..

a sense of perspective is needed here...Pellegrini is barely halfway through his first season ffs...the mess he inherited will take time to address..he will sort it..you'll see...

the injuries are a major cause of concern..as always it seems...always key players as well..we simply don't have the available players of sufficient quality to be consistent.

well beat the scousers

Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
I agree, we don't have the quality players to play 4-4-2. We have for years been crying out for a couple of top young midfielders to boss the midfield. We have stumbled upon one in Declan, but he can't do it on his own. Noble has been a great servant but age is catching up is too slow. Snodgrass the same, although not his position.

Defence is a problem, we need a LB and RB to push Cresswell and Zab. Masuaka is terrible and Fredericks although good going forward, doesn't look much better defending. Ogbonna is a liability, and Reid seems finished so we need another CB. Adrian is another liability so a goalkeeper will be needed also.

Upfront Carrolls contract ends and at least one of the others will go as well. So we will need two new young fast strikers.

That's 7-8 new quality players, otherwise it's going to be a long season again next year. I can't see the two bobs spending like last year, they will spend about £50m net this time around and Pellegrini will just go through the motions to keep us up as he will want to stay on £10m per year, as he's getting long in the tooth and may not find another job.

Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
Then I feel you’re gonna end up very disappointed!
I just don’t see where this confidence comes from and remember I was saying this weeks ago before it all went tits up.
I could see the flaws and what was coming and it ain’t getting better anytime soon unless he swallows a massive chunk of humble pie and I just can’t see it, hope I’m wrong I really do.

Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
I feel your pain for the last few matches, John, but overall I’m still hopeful regarding the general direction Pellegrini has taken us, and I have plenty of patience for him to steer us more in the right direction.

rochesterjohn 1:50 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
So I’m sure you understand my frustration at having him as our manager Lily, cos the season was far from over 3 weeks ago until his piss poor management has left us where we are.

Lily Hammer 1:45 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
He’s been sticking to his guns. We’ll see what he chooses for the rest of the season. He may change to try to salvage what he can from this season, points wise, or he may persist with his way to see who can hack it next season.

This season is dead, so it’s time to keep our cool and test the possibilities.

rochesterjohn 1:43 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
It may explain the reluctance to spend this window as well? Cos I’m sure as eggs is eggs if I was Sullivan I’d have serious reservations about Pellegrini at the moment.

rochesterjohn 1:40 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
So why aren’t we doing it?
He’s so stuck with this 4-4-2 nonsense and it foes my nut in, 2 mobile centre mids, 2 fast wide men with solid fullbacks behind them then yes I get it!
We don’t have that and yet he still persists, I honestly think the phrase about an old dog and new tricks sums him up?

CURBS

Lily Hammer 1:37 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
Yep, we’ve looked best with Noble, Rice and Obiang in the middle. Short term, Obiang needs replacing, longer term, Noble, who can be important for a while yet if he has two Declans backing him up in midfield, rather than 1 Declan and 1 Obiang.

Takashi Miike 1:33 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
the thing is, I know Noble enjoys that type of role rather than stuck in front of the back four. you have Declan as the pivot and one either side helping the attack when they can but dropping back when we need to win it back

rochesterjohn 1:29 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
Ah yes I remember that game, watched in Crete which Is why the line up didn’t really register and to be fair Yarmolenko was the dogs that day and injured shortly after so that option was taken away from him.
Still think it’s worth another go with what we have, it certainly wouldn’t have shipped 7 v Wimbledon and Wolves.

Takashi Miike 1:24 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
*Obiang broke from the middle*

Takashi Miike 1:24 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
he did at Everton and it was one of our best performances. In many broke from the middle when it moved left and Noble did the same when it was more on the right side. that 4-5-1/4-3-3 was a lot better

rochesterjohn 1:16 Fri Feb 1
Re: pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
To my knowledge he’s never started with Rice Noble and Obiang? I could be wrong on that but surely that with snodgrass and Antonio wide would make us more solid but still offer an attacking option when we have the ball?
I accept he’s been proper fucked over with the injuries but we’ve got what we’ve got, plsy with it.
